Writing & Editorial Services, Public Relations Consulting for Businesses and Nonprofits

Writing effectively for health care and human services organizations is both science and art. To do it well, you've got to know your subject and you've got to know how to write. Most of us know one or the other. I've spent a lifetime making sure that I know both.

I'm a licensed master social worker with years of experience as both clinician and executive. I'm a skilled communicator with further years of experience in public relations, marketing, advertising, fund-raising, media relations and internal corporate communications.

I've been director of foster care and adoption for Lutheran Community Services in New York, a team leader and director of incident review and special investigations for the New York State Office of Mental Health, director of public relations and marketing for Catholic Medical Centers of Brooklyn and Queens; today I work as director of publications and internal corporate communications for a major New York healthcare system.

As a consultant I oversaw internal and external merger communications in the formation of Family and Children's Association, Long Island's largest voluntary social service agency. At Catholic Medical Centers I managed all media relations and all fund-raising communications, including staging the annual million-dollar-plus Faithful Steward Dinner at the Waldorf-Astoria. For Family and Children's I handled all fund-raising and development communications, and developed public-awareness campaigns – including the agency's widely recognized community-service response to the 9/11 attacks. Along the way I've written marketing and direct-mail materials for clients as small as a local master carpenter and as large as New Jersey City University.
